Sinful Enforcer | Sneak Peek

The wait is almost over, so let’s have a peek.

Note: Sinful Enforcer runs concurrently with Sinful Obsession.

Prologue

The setup…

“Why am I getting the feeling that this is a setup?” Gaia asked, her eyes moving from me to Enzo and back. “Whatever the two of you are up to, I want no parts.”

“We aren’t up to shit,” Enzo said from where he stood. “Argue with your girl, not me.”

He ambled over and took our almost one-month-old from my arms.

“You’re supposed to have my back,” I muttered in his ear as he kissed my cheek.

Enzo chuckled and murmured back, “No. Playing matchmaker with my wife was never part of our plans.”

“We’ve never exactly stuck to any of our plans, so what’s one more time.”

He stepped back, and I peered up at him from my seat on the sofa.

Enzo as a father was a sight to behold.

The way he cared for our son made me want to give him more babies sometime soon, just not yet. I was ready to get back to work, and it was driving me crazy that I had to take time off to heal, but playing a little matchmaker with my cousin would keep me occupied for a while.

What better way to spend this time than pairing the notoriously calm mafia enforcer and the control freak with murderous tendencies.

“Two things can be true at once, Bellissima,” Enzo said, drawing me from my thoughts.

“Stop talking about me in code like I’m not standing here listening,” Gaia complained.

Enzo dipped low, our son perched on his chest with one hand and kissed my forehead.

“I’ll leave you to deal with her. Don’t overdo yourself up here while I’m gone.”

He turned and walked toward Gaia, stopping to peer down at her with a smirk.

“Maybe, don’t kill Rocco while the two of you are away,” he mused, laughing. “He’d probably let you if you asked, so don’t.”

I waited until Enzo was in the elevator and the doors were closed to address Gaia again.

“I do need you on this job,” I said, patting the empty space beside me.

She huffed but took up residence where I’d requested without a fight.

“What’s in the DMV that’s so important to you and Enzo?” she asked, lifting a perfectly arched brow. “And why can’t you send Violet or Jaz?”

“Violet is stalking her admirer, and Jaz accepted two contracts recently; furthermore, only you can help Rocco in the way he needs.

“So, there’s actually a job that needs to be done? This isn’t just you playing matchmaker?”

“Enzo wants to know who his father’s biological family is,” I revealed. “We were able to pin down some records that were sealed. He was born somewhere in the DMV.”

“Does Angelo know the two of you are meddling?”

I shook my head.

“Enzo has been curious since we found out I was pregnant, and now that our little guy is here, the man is relentless in his quest.”

It wouldn’t end well, but he and I were prepared for the fallout.

“I can dig into this from here, Luci.”

“Sure, but we have other leads that require in-person investigation,” I explained. “Rocco is good with sniffing out information; with your help, he could do it faster. Plus, he’s from D.C and knows the surrounding areas better than anyone.”

Gaia rolled her eyes, but I knew she would agree.

“Enzo corrupted you,” she accused. “Now that you believe in love, you can’t help but want it for the rest of us. I need you to know that Rocco is not my person.”

“I’ve always believed in love,” I reminded her. “Enzo just reminded me when I lost my way, that’s all. Maybe you need a reminder of what could be.”

She fell back into the sofa and sighed.

“Luci, I’m happy for you. I even sorta kinda like Enzo because he’s good to you, but falling in love is not on my agenda right now. Especially not with that psychotic ass man.”

“What happened when you were with him before?” I asked, turning my body to face hers.

“Nothing. He’s just not my kind of guy.”

She was a bad fucking liar, but I knew how to get Gaia talking.

“Okay…” I shrugged and stood. “But you do need some dick, so how about you use him for that.”

I moved around the living room, gathering all the shit that had accumulated since the day started.

“Don’t start cleaning after suggesting that. I can’t fuck that man for fun, and you know it.”

She followed me up the hall and into the baby’s room.

“Lucia, do not ignore me. You know how much I hate it.”

I dumped the mess I’d collected on the changing table and started to sort through it.

“Fine!” she exclaimed after I continued to ignore her. “I’ll tell you, even though there’s nothing to tell.”

I turned after schooling the smile on my face.

She’d been keeping what happened the first time she and Rocco were in D.C. together close to the chest. He’d done or said something to send her running for the hills.

“Before you start, will this make me hate him?”

Rocco was such a likable guy; it would break my heart to have to kill him, but I would.

“I really wish I could say yes to that…” Gaia leaned into the door frame and crossed her arms. “No, you won’t hate him. He didn’t do anything specific.”

I frowned.

“So, there isn’t actually a problem.”

She returned the frown, hers more out of frustration than mine.

“He’s the problem, Lucia.”

“Why?”

“Have you ever looked into his eyes before? There’s nothing there. When we brought those girls here, he didn’t bat an eye. He wasn’t angry or disgusted or any fucking thing. His smile isn’t real. That carefree attitude isn’t either. He’s like a walking robot; I need a walking man with feelings. Don’t get me wrong, he's so damn beautiful, but I can’t do it.”

I regarded her closely while mentally running down all my encounters with Rocco this year. How I saw him was nothing like she’d described.

He cared.

He had feelings and a family he loved.

Rocco was so much more than what meets the eye.

I got to learn those intimate details because he allowed me to.

Gaia had pegged the man wrong, or maybe she saw something only he was allowing her to see. In which case, I needed to fall back.

“I understand,” I said, nodding. “You don’t have to go, but he could still use your help. Maybe set up one of those secure chat lines for him to use and go from there.”

“This is important to you and Enzo, right?”

“It is, but like I said--”

“I’ll go as long as we have an understanding that there will be no Gaia and Ricardo.”

I threw my hands up in surrender.

“No Gaia and Ricardo. Got it.”

Gaia Juliette Wilson was a horrible liar.

As you can see Lucia set this forced proximity situation into motion.

On July 21st it'll be available on Amazon and KU.
